L''Astemia Pentita Cannubi Barolo 2010

growing location: Barolo
exposure, altitude: south, south-east, 220 m
grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo
vinification: maceration of 30-35 days
ageing: 36 months in large oak casks
serving temperature: 16/18°C

color: Garnet intense and brilliant with red reflections.

bouquet: Originating from the terroir always recognized for the olfactory richness, the Barolo Cannubi 2010 totally confirms that character. The bouquet is complex, full of fruit notes (small red fruit) and of flowers. In the second serve more fully-developed notes like spices (cinnamon and nutmeg) and a dried rose with some balsamic and fresh note (peppermint and juniper) are being perceived.

taste: Full bodied, intense and elegant like the true essence of Barolo. The wine with the right dry tannins, with long lasting final in the palate, just a bit austere. The Barolo Cannubi 2010 does not possess the masculine and strong structure but plays the best thanks to its elegance and complexity. Every sip presents a new shade, the tannins are present but are velvety, the slight acidity presents the freshness and drinkability and finally arrives to the pleasant aftertaste with licorice, chocolate and tobacco typically defined as “goudron”.

L”Astemia Pentita – L”Astemia Pentita is located on the Cannubi hill in Barolo, and it is the newest and one of the most unusual wineries, because of its special visual presentation. The winery is a masterpiece by Mrs. Sandra Vezza, who is originally from Langhe region in Italy and famous for her achievenment in the art and design. The architecture of the winery is formed up by two wooden wine boxes, one on the other, while the interior of the winery is sharp with floral prints.

Some criticise on this unusual winery and challenges the quality of their wine-making. However, after tasting their wine, I am confident and glad to say that their wine is excellent, especially the Cannubi Barolo.

Mentioning Italy, you might think about Fashion immediately. If you are a wine-lover, probably, you have special interest or even are obsessed with this country. The one, who combine Fashion and Wine perfectly, is Mrs. Sandra Vezza and her winery - L”Astemia Pentita.

The winery design of L”Astemia Pentita, by Mrs. Vezza and the famous Italian architecture, Mr. Gianni Arnaudo, who is also a well-known animator for his avantgarde thinking and strong personality, is a think-out-of-box masterpiece. They decide to build their winery in the heart of the most classic wine production region of Piedmont in Italy. Influenced by POP Art, the winery is both a big surprise and big scare for the Italians, however, in the eyes of Mrs. Vezza, who is also the founder of Italian design furniture brand – Gufram, everything comes naturally from its original concept. Gufram’s team have worked on bringing POP Art, Conceptual Art, and Perspective into modern furniture design. And now, Mrs. Vezza is bringing the Art into L”Astemia Pentita.

There is no doubt about the quality of their wine. The winery invites the worldwide top 5 wine-maker as to Wine Enthusiast, Mr. Donato Lanati, and Mr. Mauro Daniele, who worked for Ceretto in Piedmont, to join their wine-making team.

Although the winery architecture design makes it the most modern one in the area, however, it has the most traditional soul of Barolo. This combination wins L”Astemia Pentita the title of the best design of the year and much attention in the world. Interestingly, “Astemia” means the person who doesn’t drink wine, however, their wine with a touch of art is turning a wine-free person to a wine-lover.
